The switch that carries real current
Unlike a modern vehicle, where the key only triggers relays, this switch carries the load itself through screw terminals on the back. That is why the usual failure is heat: terminals that discolour, a switch that works intermittently, and a starter that clicks when everything else tests good.
Check the terminals and their wiring while the switch is out. A burnt spade or a softened insulator on the old loom will spoil the new switch in the same way.
New keys, and what that means
The switch comes with its own two keys, so it will not match the door and fuel cap locks already on the vehicle. Most owners carry the second key rather than rekey the barrel — but it is worth knowing before the parcel arrives.
