Moulded for a reason

The bend is formed into the hose. Cut-to-length universal hose kinks where this one curves, and a kinked top hose restricts flow exactly when the engine is working hardest.

Squeeze a cold hose to judge it: it should feel firm and spring back. One that feels soft and mushy, or crunchy and hard, is on its way out regardless of how it looks.

Replace both hoses together

The top and bottom hoses are the same age and see the same coolant. Changing one and leaving the other usually means draining the system twice within a year.

Fit new clamps and refill with the correct coolant mix, then bleed the system and run it up to temperature with the cap off until the thermostat opens. Air left in the block reads as overheating on the gauge with a cold radiator.
